Jim sent this after the meeting Saturday

Hayden,

This letter has only been delayed as long as it has because of Dorris'
request that I wait until after the Loa-O meeting. I wanted to send it
much earlier.

I'm not going to call you ugly names and then just let things go along
as they will.

We're done.

Hand over the game I lent you and your key to the house to Richard.
You are not welcome at our home, or in our lives, any longer. Keith
has your dice bag and the books your mother lent me.

Either refinance the truck or trade it in, but get Dorris' name off
the paperwork. Please do so with all haste.

Your word means nothing. Your resignation letter and your NDA, whether
they involve a true 'legal entity' or not, were your word. And in
violating your relinquishment of all intellectual property rights,
you've become a thief as well. Liar and thief... think on that. You
have no honor. You adhere to the 'letter of the law' and completely
violate the spirit. Your lies, misdirections and prevarications in
service of your 'dream' show that there is little truth in you. Your
religious delusions serve to give you justification for whatever you
end up doing as you stumble through your days. Your life is a road map
of clusterfuck after clusterfuck, so I see how well that's working for
you.

Like Chris concerning your daughter, like Leah concerning the money
she loaned you, we're seeing what you're made of, and it truly
disappoints me.

To reiterate, we're done.

Jim

Hayden responded with this:

I read through this message probably four or five times. I'll try to keep my response short as I see no need to drag this out any longer than is required.

First, I should have your house key and stuff to Richard by tonight or tomorrow night depending on how quickly I can get it together.

Second, I will be calling Chrysler today to start the refinancing as you requested. You can keep the extra key. I can't imagine either of you ever trying to take the truck and it may come in useful later that you have a copy.

And last, in response to the bulk of this message, I up my bid to Dorris for the Lead programmer position from $100,000.00 salary to $150,00.00 per year. Minimum of two years with benefits and an equal share of the profits from the game.

P.S.
If Jim sends me another shitty e-mail like this one I will be upping my offer again to $175,000.00.

I am not joking and I am not laughing.

I just sent Hayden my response:

Hayden

The thought that Jim would send an email, like the one he sent, without discussion with me is laughable.

The thought that Jim's email was, somehow, a bargaining ploy is insulting. In fact, the reason I didn't respond to this email sooner was, if I had, it would be about 3 pages of vitriolic prose.

The thought of working for/with someone who will ignore his own word in order to do whatever he wishes to do is nauseating.

I cannot, and I will not, work with/for someone I cannot trust again.

In case you missed it the first time around, we're done. You need not make any other offer as it will be refused.

We aren't joking
We aren't laughing

Dorris

Well, he just called Richard to arrange to drop shit off, so either he gets it or he's figuring it's the next step in the fuckin' game. All I know is he better not try to set a foot in my fucking house. And if he attempts to talk to *me*, God will be the least of his worries.

Again. For those of us not in the daily circle, what did this hyper-religious jerk do? Ghods! Don't you hate situations like this. You don't want to deal with them, but you have to deal with them. Ugh!

in a nutshell

Hayden formed a group to work on a 'puter game
We formed a group called 'Loa-O' and I was named CEO, our accountant was named CFO, everyone else was on the Board, all decisions to be based on a quarum of that Board.

after about 1 1/2 with not a whole lot of progress, a group called Saga announced it was going into public beta with a game that sounded very much like what we were working on.

the Board of Loa-O decided to shelve this particular game and work on something else, since we would no longer be the latest, greatest and neatest with this idea

Hayden didn't like this decision, stood up, announced his intention to quit the group and walked out of the meeting. He later sent a formal resignation letter, resigning from the board of Loa-O and leaving all Intellectual Property with Loa-O.

About a month or so later, I get a call from Hayden, seems he's been talking to the guy who is the 'gatekeeper' for the game concept approval process at NCSoft and the guy really, really likes the sound of the game and could we come up with a proposal. Did I mention he'd signed a Non-Disclosure Agreement?

Six weeks later, Hayden decides he's "going to take back control" because "it's been six weeks and nothing's happened" and proceeds to go to everyone left on the Loa-O board except myself and one other, telling them that "everyone else is on board with me except Dorris and Don and he's talking to us next". When I talk to everyone else, I find that the answer they actually gave him was full of provisoes.

So, basically, he's trying to profit on something that is no longer his to profit from. He quit, he gave it away - not his.

ok...large nutshell, but nutshell nonetheless, howzat?

Ah. That does help. And this is the guy who has conversations with God? They have medications for that. What puzzles me is that he said something along the line of upping his offer to you ($150,000??) if he gets another shitty letter from Jim. Hell, if I was Jim, I'd shoot one off a week to see just how high this guy will go. Could be fun. But get boring reall quick, too. Take care, All.
